Peer-Reviewing Process:
The peer review process is a critical component of scholarly publishing that ensures the quality, validity, and integrity of research articles. It involves the evaluation of manuscripts by independent experts in the field, known as reviewers, who provide their expertise and feedback to help determine the suitability of the manuscript for publication. Here is a detailed description of the peer review process adopted by Lumen Islamica Journal:
- Submission: Authors submit their manuscript to the journal by email: info@atinternational.org.
- Initial Evaluation: The journal’s editorial team conducts an initial evaluation to ensure that the manuscript meets the journal’s scope, follows the formatting guidelines, and meets ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the authors without entering the peer review process.
- Reviewer Assignment: The editor-in-chief or handling editor assigns the manuscript to appropriate reviewers who have expertise in the specific subject area covered by the manuscript. In double-blind peer review, both the reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other.
- Review Process: Reviewers carefully read and assess the manuscript based on several criteria, including the originality, significance, methodology, validity of the findings, clarity of presentation, and adherence to ethical guidelines. They evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the research, provide constructive feedback, and suggest improvements. The Reviewers receive a report form to fill out with their evaluation.
- Reviewer Reports: Reviewers compile their evaluations and comments into a comprehensive review report. The report typically includes an overall recommendation regarding the manuscript’s publication suitability, comments on specific sections, suggestions for revision or clarification, and any ethical concerns or potential conflicts of interest identified.
- Editorial Decision: The editor-in-chief or handling editor evaluates the reviewers’ reports and makes an editorial decision based on their recommendations. The decision can be categorized as:
- Acceptance: The manuscript is accepted for publication without significant revisions.
- Minor Revisions: The manuscript requires minor revisions based on the reviewers’ feedback.
- Major Revisions: The manuscript requires substantial revisions and further evaluation before a final decision is made.
- Rejection: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal due to various reasons such as poor quality, lack of originality, or insufficient alignment with the journal’s scope.
- Author Revision: If revisions are requested, the authors are notified and provided with the reviewers’ comments and suggestions. The authors then revise the manuscript accordingly, addressing each point raised by the reviewers and providing a detailed response to the reviewers’ comments.
- Second Review (if necessary): In some cases, the revised manuscript may undergo a second round of review, particularly if major revisions were requested. The same reviewers or additional reviewers may be involved in this second review.
- Final Decision: The editor-in-chief or handling editor assesses the revised manuscript and considers the reviewers’ recommendations and comments. Based on this evaluation, a final decision is made regarding acceptance, minor revisions, major revisions, or rejection.
- Notification: The authors are informed of the editorial decision, and if the manuscript is accepted, they are provided with further instructions for the publication process. If revisions are requested, the authors are given a deadline to submit the revised manuscript.
- Publication: Once the revised manuscript is accepted, it undergoes copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading before being published in the journal online.
